Flies are a terrible nuisance, but I'm not a big fan of using fly swatters either (I can't stand the thought of actually killing the pests myself. Hubby is more than welcome to do that job for me!) When I try getting rid of flies, I sing to them- "Shoo fly, don't bother me!" As I try to usher them outside ;-) As part of a preschool play date we did around the book There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, our kids actually had the opportunity to use fly swatters for painting! It was such a fun way to paint that we've done it more than once already!
Supplies:
We drew a few simple flies onto a large piece of butcher paper as something for the kids to swat at :-)
I poured a bit of paint on a cookie tin. I like the way it allowed all the colors to blend together a bit as the kids painted.
You can choose to leave the butcher paper on the ground, or you can hang it outside. We chose to hang it and had a blast!
You'll definitely want to wear play clothes and make sure the paint is washable, because there may be a few misplaced swats (see exhibit A on the back of my son's shirt!)
This is a super fun way to make cooperative art! Look at how fun and colorful their swatter painting looks!
We also used this as an opportunity to learn more about flies. These flash cards are from the A Beka curriculum (I had them leftover from my teaching days).
