Five Ways to use Birdseed (besides making another Bird Feeder)

Spring is here and one of the first things we did was make a bird feeder. I have a feeling a lot of other preschoolers/homeschoolers did the same activity. But here's my problem- I completely over estimated the amount of seed I would need and now have a bag of leftovers to make at least 100 more feeders. Since I'm not too keen on storing this in my garage for the next several years, I had to do some investigating to see if there was any other way to use the seeds. Lo and behold there were several other kid activity bloggers who came up with some great ways to use our seed :-)

This is a great way to work fine motor skills while simultaneously  incorporating math sorting skills. 

• Bird Seed I Spy Bottles (via StyleLush Blog)

I've always had a thing for I Spy bottles. They're mess free and great for long car rides.

• Bird Seed Play Dough (via two-daloo)

Don't you just want to squish that play dough around to see what it feels like?!? And the addition of the miniature birds is all the more fun.

A letter of the week activity that might spark some discussion and investigation about the types of seeds being used!

• Bird Themed Sensory Bin (via My Nearest and Dearest)

Sensory bins are always well received in our house. I think we may just have enough seeds to do this bin! (Don't forget to look at the bottom of this post where there is a bonus activity about bird beaks and seeds!)
